I was suprised to hear recently that Coventry based security systems company DDD has ceased trading. And although on one hand, if you’re in business you shouldn’t be too upset about seeing the competition go, I did have a bit of a soft spot for DDD as we used to provide sub-contract labour for them many years ago…
They, like us were protecting local homes and businesses as far back as the 1980’s from their base: Security House in Mile Lane, Coventry.
When we worked with them, they were installing a lot of CCTV as well as the first Scantronic code operated alarm systems, the 9100 for commercial and the 9200 for domestic installations. Most of these will probably have been upgraded by now to 21st century wireless alarm systems but occasionally we still come across some of these earlier burglar alarms as we are asked to do repairs and upgrades across Coventry and Warwickshire.
One thing about alarm companies is that you can see where they’ve been, the classic alarm bell box with the company logo on the front of the protected building can be seen sometimes for decades after the installation, so their presence lingers long after they have gone…
Not a good choice of name for a bellbox logo that is “no longer trading”
Hi Steve, Not quite sure what your point is mate? What name did you expect to see on a bell box in an article written about DDD?
Does the former company have any of their old metal bell boxes left in storage? Always liked the look of them with big DDD lettering – back in the late 80s…
I doubt that you would find any unused DDD bell boxes anywhere now. They switched to plastic as most companies did many years ago anyway.
