Burglar alarms and CCTV in Balsall Common: two local installations
A garden entrance you can’t see from the house. An alarm you want to check while you’re away. These were the starting points for two recent home security installations in Balsall Common.

For one homeowner, we fitted CCTV to cover the front of the property and a separate garden entrance. For another, we installed a burglar alarm with app-based self-monitoring and a video doorbell.
Here’s what each customer needed and how we helped.

CCTV for a garden entrance in Balsall Common
What the homeowner needed
This homeowner wanted a clearer view of an entrance to their garden. It was away from the front door and difficult to see from inside the house.
The position of a garden gate or side entrance can make a difference to where cameras are needed. Covering the driveway alone wouldn’t have addressed this customer’s main concern.

What we fitted
After a free visit to assess the property, we installed two CCTV cameras. One was positioned to cover the garden entrance at the back, with the other covering the front of the house.
We set up the EZView app so the homeowner could view live footage and look back through recordings from their phone. Before leaving, we showed them how to use it.
What changed for the homeowner
They can now check both entrances without needing to be at home. The camera at the back covers the area they originally contacted us about, while the front camera provides another useful view of the property.
An HKC burglar alarm and video doorbell in Balsall Common
What the homeowner needed
Another Balsall Common customer wanted to understand what would happen if their new burglar alarm went off while they were away.
They wanted a system that would let them know about an activation, rather than relying only on someone nearby hearing the bell box.
What we fitted

We installed an HKC burglar alarm system with self-monitoring through the SecureComm app.
If the alarm is triggered, the homeowner receives an alert on their phone. They can check the alarm’s status and activity history, see which detector activated, and set or unset the system remotely.
Self-monitoring means the homeowner receives the notification and decides how to respond. This installation isn’t monitored by an alarm receiving centre and doesn’t include automatic police attendance.
The customer also chose a video doorbell. This gives them a view of the front entrance and lets them see and speak to visitors through their phone.
The doorbell uses SecureComm too, so the customer can access both their alarm and doorbell through the same app.
We talked them through the equipment and app before leaving, including how to set and unset the alarm and check notifications.
What changed for the homeowner
They now have a burglar alarm they can manage remotely, with alerts sent directly to their phone. The doorbell adds a view of visitors and deliveries at the front entrance, alongside the alarm’s protection.
Choosing security for your home in Balsall Common, Berkswell or Meriden

These installations addressed different needs. CCTV gave one customer a view of an entrance they couldn’t easily see. An alarm with app access helped the other stay informed while away, with a doorbell providing extra visibility at the front door.
When we visit your home, we’ll look at:
Doors and windows: where alarm detection would be useful.
Side passages and garden entrances: whether CCTV would help you see activity outside.
The front door: whether a video doorbell would be useful for visitors and deliveries.
How you use your home: including time away and which areas you want protected while you’re indoors.
An alarm, CCTV and a video doorbell each have a different job. You may need one, two or all three, depending on your property and what you’d like to achieve.
We’ll explain the options and recommend a setup that suits you.

Frequently asked questions
Do you install burglar alarms in Balsall Common, Berkswell and Meriden?
Yes. Midland Alarm Services installs burglar alarms, CCTV and video doorbells in Balsall Common, Berkswell, Meriden and surrounding villages.
What does a self-monitored burglar alarm mean?
It means you receive alarm alerts through an app and decide how to respond. With an HKC alarm connected to SecureComm, you can also check its status and set or unset it remotely. Self-monitoring does not include an alarm receiving centre response or automatic police attendance.
Do the alarm, CCTV and video doorbell use the same app?
The HKC alarm and HKC video doorbell use SecureComm. CCTV uses EZView for live footage and recordings.
How much does a home security installation cost?
The cost depends on the equipment and coverage you need. We offer a free home security survey and explain package costs and any ongoing app subscription charges before you decide.
