HKC video doorbell and plug in chime

A parcel left on the doorstep. A knock at the door while you're at work or late at night. For one Allesley homeowner, these everyday moments were the reason to add a video doorbell to their HKC burglar alarm.

We fitted an HKC Smart Video Doorbell and set it up in the same SecureComm app they already used for their alarm. Here's what they needed and how we helped.

Adding a video doorbell to an existing alarm in Allesley

What the homeowner needed

This homeowner already had a wireless burglar alarm installed by us, which they managed through the SecureComm app. They were often out during the day and wanted to know who was calling at the house while they were away.

Deliveries were a big part of it. They wanted to see when a parcel arrived and speak to the driver if needed. They also didn't want another separate app to keep track of.

What we fitted

We installed an HKC Smart Video Doorbell at the front door and connected it to their existing SecureComm app. A plug-in chime was included, so they can still hear the doorbell inside.

The doorbell records in 1080p HD with a 154-degree field of view and night vision up to 6 metres. Two-way audio lets them see and speak to visitors from their phone.

Its AI detection can tell the difference between people, vehicles, pets and parcels. We set up detection zones, so they're only alerted about activity at the front of their own property. Recordings are stored in the cloud for 30 days and can be viewed in SecureComm.

Before leaving, we showed them how to answer the doorbell, check alerts and look back through recordings in the app.

What changed for the homeowner

They can now check their alarm and their front door from one app. When someone calls, they can see and speak to them, whether they're upstairs or at work.

They also know when a parcel has been delivered. The doorbell camera adds a visible deterrent at the front of the house, alongside the alarm's bell box.

How the video doorbell fits into a SecureComm plan

If you already have an HKC alarm with us, adding the doorbell costs an extra £5 a month on top of your SecureComm plan. It can also be fitted on its own.

SecureComm plans are app-based self-monitoring. Alerts come straight to your phone and you decide how to respond. They aren't monitored by an alarm receiving centre and don't include automatic police attendance.

Choosing security for your home in Allesley, Eastern Green or Coundon

This homeowner didn't need a new alarm. They needed a clearer view of their front door, added to the system they already had.

When we visit your home, we'll look at:

  • Your existing alarm: whether we can add to it rather than replace it.

  • The front door: whether a video doorbell would help with visitors and deliveries.

  • New-build homes: if you've moved into one of the newer developments around Eastern Green, what's already fitted and what's worth adding.

  • How you use your home: including time out at work or away, and which areas you'd like to keep an eye on.

An alarm, CCTV and a video doorbell each do a different job. You may need one, two or all three, depending on your property. We'll explain the options and recommend a setup that suits you.
